On November 25, 2024, Congressman Cline expressed concern about the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in American academic institutions. He criticized the University of Minnesota for maintaining ties with Sun Yat-sen University despite warnings about its connections to the CCP. "The CCP is actively trying to influence and infiltrate American universities. It’s unacceptable that the University of Minnesota continues its ties with the CCP-controlled Sun Yat-sen University despite serious warnings."
