City of Winchester issued the following announcement on Jan. 24

The Winchester-Frederick County Metropolitan Planning Organization (WinFred MPO) scheduled four public meeting options for residents to guide the greater Winchester area’s transportation future. Residents and stakeholders may attend any one of the four meetings, which will inform participants on a recent regional transportation effort to guide decision makers on future transportation projects. The meetings will be an open house format, where participants can drop in at any time between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. This is a welcoming environment, where attendees can ask questions and freely share their insight.

Meeting dates and locations:

• Monday, January 31, 6-8 pm – Stephens City Town Office (1033 Locust St. Stephens City, VA 22655)
• Tuesday, February 1, 6-8 pm – Millbrook High School (251 First Woods Dr, Winchester, VA 22603)
• Wednesday, February 2, 6-8 pm – Greenwood Mill Elementary School (281 Channing Dr, Winchester, VA 22602)
• Thursday, February 3, 6-8 pm – Timbrook Public Safety Building (231 East Piccadilly Street, Winchester, VA 22601)

Refreshments will be available. There will be Spanish translation services available at the Wednesday, February 1st meeting.

Public comments will guide a 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). Reviewed and updated every five years with the most current forecasts in population, employment, land use, travel, congestion and economic activity, the MTP defines long-range transportation needs for the City of Winchester, surrounding developed areas of Frederick County, and areas expected to become developed over the next 20 years; and proposes strategies for addressing those needs. Through the MTP, the MPO establishes its priorities for the investment of federal transportation dollars.

The public can also participant through the project survey. The survey is available in both English and Spanish

WinFred MPO is a public forum created to give state and local elected officials and stakeholders a say, through an ongoing planning process, in how Federal transportation dollars are spent locally. Cities and adjacent urbanized areas having a population of 50,000 or greater must, by federal law, have an MPO as a condition for federal funding. WinFred MPO is governed by a Policy Board which meets monthly; and is managed by the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission. More information is available at https://winfredmpo.org.
