Massie

Shenandoah University issued the following announcement on July 14

Football star Jack Massie '21 has been named first team Academic All-America in selections announced Wednesday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Massie was picked as a tight end. He is the 20th SU student-athlete, and fourth football player, to be named Academic All-America.

Massie, the Class of 2021 Outstanding Male Student-Athlete, served as a co-captain this past season and finished his career as a three-year starter. A 3.98 student with an undergraduate degree in biology, Massie earned Academic All-State honors, was a Campbell Trophy semi-finalist and a National Football Foundation Hampshire Society inductee. He also was a three-time Academic All-District V selection.

For his career, the Washington, Virginia native played in 25 games with 16 receptions for 108 yards and three touchdowns. He also served as a kickoff specialist and had 10 touchbacks and a 54.3 yard average in 73 attempts in that role.

To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves on their teams and have at least a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Nominees are voted on by athletic communications professionals in eight districts across the country for All-District honors with first team All-District honorees then moving on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Shenandoah University has had 20 students named Academic All-America since 1998. Prior to Massie, the most recent Academic All-America honorees were Alex Wessel '18 (women's soccer) and Caleb Hutson '19 (football) in 2017.
