Wrestling Announces 2022-23 Schedule

 The Shenandoah University men's wrestling program announced its 2022-23 schedule Friday morning.

 

The Hornets see competition a program-record 18 times in the regular season and are hosting the first-ever ODAC Championships on Feb. 11.

 

Wrestling hits the mats for the first time on the season in the Alvernia Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania on Nov. 5.

 

The program heads to Averett University the following weekend for its first of two meetings with the Cougars. This Nov. 13 meeting will be an open tournament.

 

Shenandoah holds the program's first home quad match on Nov. 19 as Patrick Henry College, University of Scranton, and Gettysburg College come to town. This is the first time SU has competed against any of these teams.

 

After the home quad match, SU travels to Messiah for an invitational tournament on Dec. 3. They then take the mat for their first ODAC match of the season at Roanoke on Dec. 8.

 

Virginia Military Institute and Fairmont State University are next on the schedule. The Hornets face the Keydets and Falcons on Dec. 10 in a tri-match at VMI.

 

Before the holiday break, SU hosts Penn State Mont Alto on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. The Hornets then go to Washington & Lee on Jan. 7 for their first competition of the new year.

 

Four days later SU hosts Averett in an ODAC bout.

 

Ursinus College hosts Shenandoah for an invitational on Jan. 14. Following the Grizzlies match the Hornets head down to Lexington, Va. to face the Generals in ODAC action.

 

On Jan. 21 and 26 SU hosts their final two home matches. The Ferrum Panthers come to town on the 21st and on the 26th the Southern Virginia Knights wrestle in Winchester.

 

Shenandoah wraps up the first month of the 2023 at the Elizabethtown Invitational on Jan. 28. On Feb. 4, SU squares off with associate ODAC member Greensboro to wrap up the regular season.

 

The previously mentioned ODAC Championships are set for one week later in the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center. The NCAA Championships taking place in the City of Champions, Salem, Virginia, on Feb. 24 at 9 a.m.
