Congressman Ben Cline, representing Virginia’s 6th district since 2019, recently shared several insights via social media regarding his legislative efforts and concerns. Known for his background in law and dedication to small businesses, Cline has been vocal about various issues affecting the nation.
On May 7, 2025, Congressman Cline addressed the challenges faced by small businesses due to federal regulations. He stated that “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy—but Washington keeps burying them in red tape.” To combat this issue, he introduced the Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act. This legislation aims to mandate that government agencies assess the impact of their rules on small enterprises and alleviate regulatory burdens.
In another post on the same day, Cline highlighted a House vote concerning funding restrictions for universities associated with Confucius Institutes or Chinese entities of concern. He expressed satisfaction with including the Chinese Academy of Sciences in these measures through an amendment he led during the previous Congress session. Cline remarked, “Today, the House is voting to block DHS funding from going to universities that partner with Confucius Institutes or Chinese entities of concern.”
Later that day, Cline emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) for national security and economic prosperity while cautioning against exploitation by foreign powers such as China. He stated: “AI is critical to both our economy and national security, but the CCP is exploiting our open markets to gain the upper hand.” His call to action includes bolstering American innovation and safeguarding technological infrastructure.
Ben Cline has served in Congress since succeeding Bob Goodlatte in 2019. Prior to this role, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 until 2018. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 and currently residing in Fincastle, Virginia, Cline holds degrees from Bates College and the University of Richmond.
